Stoke City academy director Gareth Jennings says Tom Edwards deserved his chance at Manchester City.
Edwards enjoyed an eventful first appearance after crossing superbly for Stoke's second goal and then having to retire with an ankle injury when the score was only 3-2. City went onto win the game 7-2.
“The game might have been considered too big for some, but Tom had the resilience to be trusted," said Jennings to The Sentinel.
“You see plenty of young players who physically and technically have enough, but having the psychological side of moving on from setbacks is key and Tom has got that in abundance.
"He would run through a brick wall for you and he epitomises what we would expect at Stoke City Football Club in terms of hard work and resilience. He won't rest on his laurels, he will want more.
“Getting a local boy into a Premier League team is almost like putting a man on the moon at the moment."
