Stewart joins ex-Burnley, Bolton, Wigan boss Coyle at Houston Dynamo

Owen Coyle has hired his former assistant Sandy Stewart to join him at Houston Dynamo.

49-year old Scotsman Stewart reunites with Coyle after serving as his right-hand man at Burnley, Bolton and Wigan Athletic.

Stewart takes over as the primary assistant at BBVA Compass Stadium, alongside Wade Barrett, and will be joined by new director of sports performance/strength and conditioning coach Paul Caffrey.

Departing the Texan club, however, is assistant coach Steve Ralston and goalkeeper coach Tim Hanley who resigned on Monday.

Of the Stewart and Caffrey appointments, Coyle told MLSsoccer.com: "He's obviously worked at the very highest level, so it's a great appointment.

"It's a great addition, while also having Wade there. He's good with the players as well. It covers every facet and dimension we look for.

"We spoke with people two or three times, and for me Paul shone through like a beacon.

"Moving forward I feel very strongly that we have a very strong team that I know we can go in and deliver and know the game inside out with a wealth of experience."
