Steve Round holds no Man Utd grudge: A great experience

Former Manchester United and Everton assistant coach Steve Round holds no grudge over their demise at Old Trafford.

Round lost his job as David Moyes was sacked last season.

He told Sirius XM: "Even though we feel we didn't get enough time to justify stamping our philosophy on the club and taking it forward, it was still a great place to work.

"It's a wonderful football club with fantastic support. The support we received, especially the manager internally and inside the stadium, with the way the fans got behind him, was phenomenal.

"They never dipped in wavering with that support. It was always terrific and I think even the results post-David have shown that it is a big job, it is a big turnaround.

"You're coming in after such an iconic manager, who's probably been the best manager that's ever lived, especially in the English game, and it's a very difficult thing to do, it takes time.

"It takes time to stamp your own philosophy on the club and move forward. I think you've seen that now with Louis van Gaal, who's an exceptional manager, but he's going to need time.

"It was a little bit disappointing not to get that time but, having said that, it was a great experience to work in that environment, just the size of the club, the arena, the ability of some of the players was terrific, and every day was a pleasure to go out on the training ground with them.

"To work with the likes of Wayne Rooney, who I'd worked with before and had a good relationship with, that was terrific. And Robin van Persie, what a great player. It was a fantastic learning curve for myself and one that will put me in good stead for the future, that's for sure."
