Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta has stated that teammate Raheem Sterling was the cause his injury in pre-season.
The usually ultra fit Zabaleta had been ruled out for two months at the start of the season due to a knee ligament problem and the defender has now gone on to reveal how he suffered the surprising injury.
Zabaleta stated that it was a challenge from new teammate Sterling in training which caused the knee problem and stated that the injury was the worst he has suffered in his entire career.
The defender said: "It wasn't a bad challenge from Raheem Sterling, it was just how I fell. The doctor knew straight away what had happened and he said it was a typical medial ligament injury in my knee.
"The scan showed it was Grade Two which isn't too bad as it meant I didn't need surgery. It is probably the longest I've been out in my career. All the other problems have been muscle strains or head wounds. I had a problem with my ankle when I went to play for Argentina in Chile.
"I had an injection so that I could play for Argentina and when I returned I was struggling with that problem and maybe running differently as a result. Sometimes one problem creates another and that may have been part of the reason why I injured my knee."
