Sterling camp warns Liverpool: He's best you have - on and off pitch

Liverpool midfielder Raheem Sterling is seeking a commercial deal with the Reds before committing to a playing contract. The People says now that captain Steven Gerrard has announced he is leaving to join LA Galaxy, there is a growing awareness of how much Sterling's image will be worth globally to fans and sponsors. The 20-year-old is an obvious man to become Liverpool's figurehead as he emerges as their prized asset.

Sterling received an initial informal offer of £70,000-a-week and as the situation drags on fans will worry his head could yet be turned by interest from abroad.

The Kop hero is aware that he is being monitored by Spanish giants Real Madrid, who would be tempted into a summer bid if no new deal is signed.

But he does want to commit to Liverpool and is set to sign as soon as they agree on the overall package.
