Stephens to leave Stabaek for Chicago Fire

Michael Stephens has departed Norwegian club Stabaek for Chicago Fire.

Reports suggest that the 25-year old midfielder has reportedly left Stabaek to return to MLS where he will sign with the Fire ahead of the 2015 season.

Stephens joined Stabaek from LA Galaxy after finishing up at the end of the 2013 campaign but it appears as though he could be on his way back to the USA with the Fire.

"Mike was so keen to play for us that he booked the ticket itself and showed up at training to show that he was good enough to play for us in the Premier League," Stabaek sporting director Inge Andrè Olsen told Fædrelandsvennen.

"He said even before he came that you'd better throw him away from the training field. This willingness and ambition have also been shown to be indicative of Mike playing.

"Mike is always available both for training to fight and is a player who plays with his heart on his shirt.

"Mike has been given an opportunity to play for Chicago Fire in MLS. Mike wanted it strongly and Stabaek have put it in front of him so he will have the opportunity.

"We thank Mike for the effort and contribution he has given Stabaek in 2014 and we wish him good luck in Chicago."
