Steinsson: Bolton's season back on track

Bolton defender Gretar Steinsson insists all the players are pulling in the same direction and they all laughed off claims of dressing-room unrest. Captain Kevin Davies called a players' meeting last Friday after a run of five matches without a win dropped Wanderers dangerously close to the relegation zone.

They then beat West Ham 3-1 in midweek - only their second win since September 26 - and Steinsson said the squad had re-focused themselves after the players' meeting.

"Sometimes you just need to set everyone so they are looking at the same thing, get our aim right," he said.

"We just needed to put in a little bit of extra work and a little bit extra pressure on ourselves - even though there is already a lot of pressure on us.

"We haven't been doing as well as we wanted and we need to do better, we know it, and the last two games we have been getting the points.

"We all care. We want to do better, we want to do well for the team and for the team to do well."

The Iceland defender admits there are disagreements within the squad over minor issues but felt, because of the club's poor form, they had been blown out of all proportion.

"We have our differences on a professional point of view but everyone has disagreements in work and in life and it is the same at a football club," he added.

"We are allowed to disagree. It is the normal thing. The players have cleared the air. We are just professionals who want to do well.

"Disagreements at the training ground, in games, at half-time and after games is just normal - we are men and we want to win, that is the way it is.

"If you focus on it and say there are problems here then there are problems everywhere.

"When the rumours are about us it we just laugh about it, it is ridiculous.

"If people were around us at the training ground they would know we are really competitive and want to win."
