Steinsson aiming for better at Bolton

Gretar Steinsson hopes to make a bigger impact at Bolton Wanderers next season.

The defender said: "I get on well with the manager; he signed me and he kept Bolton in the Premier League. But I feel I have contributed towards that. I hope he feels that he saw a good player in me when he paid the money to Alkmaar.

"I was his first signing and he felt I would fit in, and it has progressed well from there. If I am his man, then that is important to me. I shall be back in training in early July, but I will have a vacation first. It was a difficult season, Bolton were in a lot of trouble when I arrived.

"I have three years left on my contract and I feel that I still have just starting my career at Bolton. I joined in January and have figured in most of the games to the end of the season in the fight to avoid relegation.

"The pressure was massive, to avoid relegation. Previously, I had played in sides always going for the title. But the pressure really was no different. It was stressful and difficult, but the pressure is always the same.

"You are playing for the team and the fans. The money is important. But we were not really thinking about that, we were thinking of staying up.''
