Steele: I hope Man Utd appreciate Liverpool shock

Barnsley hero Luke Steele expects to receive some congratulatory messages from his former Manchester United teammates after his team's shock FA Cup victory over Liverpool.

Steele, stuck in the reserves at West Brom, raced up to Oakwell to answer Davey's prayers when first-choice Heinz Muller smashed a cruciate and on-loan Tony Warner was cup-tied.

Two training sessions later and he was walking out at Anfield, ready to have the game of his life.

It could not have been a bigger contrast to Steele's only other visit to the home of the Mersey giants, sitting in the stand as back-up to Edwin van der Sar two years ago.

He revealed: "That was the day when Alan Smith broke his leg, which was terrible as he's a great lad. We lost as well.

"It's good to come here and wipe away those memories. I think the United lads will be pleased I have helped to knock Liverpool out.

"I imagine I will have texts from some of them when I turn my phone on. If I don't get them today, I guess that I never will."
