More than half of over 6,000 Sunderland fans surveyed had lost complete faith in Gus Poyet by the time of his sacking.
According to stats released by Forza Football (www.footballaddicts.com), just 42% of Black Cats supporters felt Poyet was the right man for the role in his final few weeks at the Stadium of Light.
The Uruguayan was axed by the Wearside club on Monday and a stats special shows that confidence of the Mackem had declined from 89% at the beginning of the season to 42% just before he was relieved of his duties.
It was generally a constant deterioration for Poyet with numbers continuing to fall despite when confidence in his abilities boosted from 49% to 69% in December.
He enjoyed some positive backing in January and February when 78% and 74% of fans got behind him but since then it has been a steady regression, culminating in his departure in the wake of the weekend's humiliating 4-0 loss to Aston Villa.
