Standards being set at Man Utd are not good enough - Scholes

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has criticised Louis van Gaal's side following the 2-0 Europa League defeat to arch rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday night.

The former midfielder believes that the current crop of United players doesn't have good enough standards to live up to because there is not enough leadership and quality in the squad.

"When you are at Manchester United there are certain standards you have to live up to. And they have fallen well short," said Scholes on BT Sport.

"When we were coming through we had players like (Bryan) Robson, (Roy) Keane setting standards and we had to live up to those standards.

"When me and Rio (Ferdinand) were playing we set standards for these players but every single one of them has fallen short of the standards we set.

"There was a lack of quality and a lack of fight. It was a shambles."
