Stamford Bridge clash decides everything - Chelsea's Mourinho

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho admits he did not set out to create a stalemate in Tuesday night's Champions League semi-final first leg at Atletico Madrid.

The Blues forced a 0-0 draw at the Vicente Calderon in the initial final four fixture of Europe's premier club competition but Mourinho says he did not send his team out to perform a defensive game style against the Spanish league leaders.

Mourinho was also obvious in his statement regarding the second leg at Stamford Bridge next week which will see the winner progress to the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League final.

"We didn't start the game thinking of a 0-0," Mourinho said.

"But the game goes in a certain direction where you feel you have to be safe, don't concede and try to score in one of the few chances you create.

"If we score one goal in one of those situations the result would be very good. We didn't.

"We go with a result that decides everything at Stamford Bridge."

Mourinho added: "We had problems before the game, we had problems during the game, we lost four players during the game, two with injuries (Petr Cech and John Terry), two with yellow cards, but we will fight."
