Stam: Man Utd have landed a 'quality player' in Depay

Jaap Stam believes his former club Manchester United have made a quality signing in Memphis Depay.

The Red Devils landed the 21-year old Dutch winger from PSV Eindhoven for a reported transfer fee of £25million on Thursday and not long after the deal broke, Stam spoke to MUTV and ManUtd.com regarding the talent.

Stam, who made the move to Old Trafford from Eindhoven back in 1998, knows Depay's qualities well and is aware of what the Eredivisie ace will bring to Louis van Gaal's side.

"He's a quality player," Stam said.

"United always want to attack and the club always has an interest in players that have a lot of pace and who can also play the one-vs-ones and create something or score goals. Memphis is that type of player.

"He doesn't pay a lot of attention to what people say in the press, he does his own thing and is very focused on his own thing.

"Of course, he is a team player and that's what you need to be at United, but he has his own qualities and he knows that."

Stam was speaking from Amsterdam where he is the assistant for Jong Ajax, the Dutch powerhouse's reserve team.
