Michael Higdon was lauded by St Mirren boss Danny Lennon after scoring twice in the 2-1 win at Dundee United which saw Saints climb off the foot of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. "There were three great goals within the game," said Lennon.
"The second one especially for us was an absolutely wonderful counter attack from start to finish.
"Big Michael's got free - he's such a controlled finisher and I was delighted for him.
"He's a big, big player for us, but what I was absolutely delighted with was his work ethic."
The Buddies, who meet Celtic on Sunday, moved up to ninth in a tight tussle at the foot of the SPL, while Hibernian - level at the foot of the table before last night's matches - secured a win over leaders Rangers to demonstrate how competitive the league is.
"We'd mentioned that there was an opportunity that we could get ourselves off the bottom of the table and they stepped up to the mark very well," added Lennon.
"But they've got to continue with that - we've got to make sure we start to pick up more points.
"It's going to be very, very much a rat race in there come the end and everybody's more than capable of cutting each other's throats and big scalps as well."
