St Johnstone's Lomas hoping for Davidson stay

St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas has urged young gun Murray Davidson to remain at the club for the time being.

The 22-year old midfielder has emerged as a target for reigning Scottish champions Rangers with former Saints boss Derek McInnes also a fan and keen to get him to Bristol City in the winter.

But Lomas feels that Davidson should stay put for now and continue developing his game before considering a move away.

"I am delighted with Murray's performances," said Lomas.

"I know the club rejected a bid from Rangers before the transfer deadline and it would have to be a very good offer to move him anywhere because Murray is under contract for another year beyond next summer.

"We don't want to lose him and he knows how highly I rate him. I would like to see Murray stay here and get better and better. I would love to be the manager who helps him to the next stage.

"I know he wants to play at the highest level but another year here could benefit him enormously in the long-term."
