St Johnstone draws first blood with surprise Rosenborg result

St Johnstone have stunned Norwegian giants Rosenborg in the second round of Europa League qualifying.

Tommy Wright's first competitive game in charge of the Saints brought about a significant 1-0 victory away from home as they now get set to build on that lead at McDiarmid Park next week.

Defender Frazer Wright surprised the home side when he got free at the front post to turn home David Wotherspoon's low corner in the 19th minute before St Johnstone did a power of defending to maintain a clean sheet and record an unlikely triumph.

Although they did draw first blood, Saints boss Wright is well aware that there is plenty to do in the return leg.

"We know have a good chance of going through to the next round but Rosenborg will be hungry to strike back," he said.

"For the home leg we need to be as disciplined as we were today. We'll need to put down the same amount of work back at McDiarmid."
