St Johnstone appoints former Newcastle, Man City keeper Wright as new boss

St Johnstone have appointed Tommy Wright as their new manager following the departure of Steve Lomas.

The 49-year old former Saints assistant has taken the reins at McDiarmid Park, stepping into the shoes left by Lomas who has taken the job at Millwall.

Former Newcastle United, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Reading goalkeeper will be assisted by Saints defender Callum Davidson.

"The club is delighted to announce the appointment of Tommy Wright as the new manager of St Johnstone Football Club," an official statement read.

"Tommy is joined by Callum Davidson, who will work alongside him as his assistant.

"The club welcomes this exciting new chapter, heralding the start of a challenging European and domestic campaign."
