St Etienne midfielder Jordan Veretout has again spoken of rejecting Leicester City last year.

Veretout, then with Nantes, had offers on table from Leicester and Aston Villa, eventually he chose the latter. Villa would be relegated last season, while Leicester finished champions.

"A call from (Claudio ) Ranieri? Yes, the day I signed with Aston Villa. He called me personally in French. He knew me very well and wanted me to join him. Except that it was the day of my departure!

"Sure, we still thought about it that night. But Aston Villa spoke to me more than Leicester.

"If they had come forward first, would I have signed? Yes, but I did not have a big enough time to reflect."
