Joe Cole's future at Liverpool is in doubt.
The Sunday Mirror says Liverpool's move for Rennes winger Sylvain Marveaux will lead to further speculation about the future of Cole, who was similarly signed without a fee following his release by Chelsea last summer.
Cole has struggled with injury and form and failed to justify the reported £100,000-a-week wages he is earning at Liverpool.
Tottenham and West Ham United are both keen to bring Cole back to London.
