Spurs wasted £50m on Sissoko, Janssen says Shearer

Alan Shearer believes Tottenham Hotspur poured £50million down the drain in the summer.

Discussing the North London club's financial standing in the Premier League, former Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers star Shearer said chairman Daniel Levy wasted cash by purchasing Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen prior to the 2016/17 season.

“Financially, they are already well behind some of their top-four rivals," he wrote in his column for The Sun.

“And they will have even less money now because of what they are pumping into the new stadium.

“It doesn't help that nearly £50million went down the drain last summer on Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen, who have been well short of the standard expected."

French midfielder Sissoko, 27, joined Spurs from Newcastle for £30m and has started just 10 of his 27 appearances which have yielded four assists.

Dutch striker Janssen, 22, arrived for £17m from AZ Alkmaar and has scored just five goals in 32 outings for the North Londoners.
