Spurs want to take Defoe on-loan from Toronto FC

Tottenham hope to keep hold of Jermain Defoe.

The Daily Mail says Defoe is set to complete a £90,000-per-week move to MLS side Toronto, who are managed by former Spurs defender Ryan Nelsen, next month.

But it is understood Spurs are exploring the prospect of bringing the striker straight back on loan to ensure that they are not short of attacking options for the final months of the season.

A loan return to Tottenham would satisfy Defoe's desire to stay in contention for Roy Hodgson's World Cup plans.

An instant move to the MLS would all but end the striker's hopes of going to Brazil next summer, but regular Barclays Premier League football would give him a chance of a squad place.
