Tottenham are waiting to close the signing of Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate.
The News of the World says Spurs are still waiting on a decision from Middlesbrough central defender Woodgate about a £7.5m move. The ex-England man held favourable talks with Tottenham on Friday and is choosing between them and Newcastle.
But Tottenham hope Boro owner Steve Gibson's reluctance to sell to nearby Newcastle will prove crucial.
The club still want Boro winger Stewart Downing but fear Gibson won't allow both he and Woodgate to go. But if the Woodgate deal falls through Tottenham are ready to throw a £12m 'take it or leave it offer' on the table on Thursday - the last day of the transfer window - in a bid to finally grab Downing.
