Tottenham hope to use their former players at Portsmouth to help them clinch a deal for Jermain Defoe.
The Daily Mail says Portsmouth want as much as £20million for a player they bought for £7.5m on the final day of last year's winter transfer window.
Spurs are still owed £4m from the deal and will offer to wipe out that debt, together with £3m owed for Younes Kaboul, and add £5m in cash to take the fee to £12m.
Pompey chief Peter Storrie conceded: "It looks like Jermain wants to go.
"That is something we will be speaking to him about but if Jermain goes, it will be at our price."
