Spurs tell Schalke to go higher for Bentaleb

Schalke have failed with a bid for Tottenham outcast Nabil Bentaleb.

The Mirror says Schalke have had a £10million bid for midfielder Bentaleb rejected by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

The French-born 21-year-old Algerian midfielder has been told by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino there is no place for him at White Hart Lane after the arrival of Victor Wanyama and the emergence of England star Dele Alli.

That alerted Schalke who are seeking midfield reinforcements after selling German international hot-shot Leroy Sane to Manchester City and losing last season's loanee Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

But they have fallen short of Tottenham's £15million valuation of Bentaleb.
