Spurs striker Crouch: Liverpool should never have sold Torres - nor me!

Tottenham striker Peter Crouch is sorry to see Fernando Torres leave Liverpool for Chelsea.

And the England international admits regret that he wasn't given a chance by former Reds boss Rafa Benitez of forming a strike-partnership with El Nino.

Crouch said: "It's a real shame Fernando has left Liverpool.

"I still have a soft spot for the club and didn't want to see him go. I know the fans absolutely idolised him. I do wonder how things might have worked out if the manager had tried us as a pair more often.

"We could have been really good together. It would have worked, without a doubt.

"When Fernando signed I was already there but I didn't see his arrival as helping to push me out. I thought we could have complemented each other really well.

"The manager wanted Torres up on his own with Stevie Gerrard playing off him but there were times when Stevie was out and he still didn't play me with Torres."
