Tottenham winger Erik Lamela says his wonder goal in victory over Europa League opponents Asteras Tripolis was the best of his life. Amazingly, Lamela, who helped Spurs move joint-top of their Europa League group with this crushing victory, claimed he had done it because it was the most straightforward option available.
"Was it the best goal of my life? Yes, I think so," he told the London Evening Standard. "I've scored one similar to that, too, when I was playing for the junior teams of River Plate in Argentina.
"Can it help me reach my best form here? Yes, yes. The goal was important for me, also because I needed to score - it could have been any type of goal. I'm happy for the goal and the win.
"I hope to continue in this way but I have to remember that this was just one game. I need to think about doing other things well and continuing to improve.
"When the ball came to me, it wasn't as though I was thinking about doing it. There was nothing in my mind; it just happened in a flash.
"I just wanted to score and that was the most comfortable, effective way of making it happen. It's definitely something I'll remember because it was very different from most of the other goals I've scored."
