Newcastle have had a £2m bid for Tottenham right-back Pascal Chimbonda turned down despite the France international's desire to leave White Hart Lane.
The former Wigan defender has made 98 appearances for Spurs but feels his future lies away from the club as manager Juande Ramos continues rebuilding.
