Tottenham are planning a £7 million bid for Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson.

The Sunday Mirror says Johnson, an England Under-21 international, made a big impact during a loan spell at Watford earlier this season and manager Hornets boss Aidy Boothroyd wanted to keep the 20-year-old at Vicarage Road until the end of the season. Boro boss Gareth Southgate - whose team face a Premier League survival battle - recalled him to the Riverside to bolster his squad, but could be tempted to cash in on the highly-rated youngster.

Johnson recently signed a new four-year deal, but his first-team opportunities are restricted by England winger Stuart Downing.
