Spurs No2 Poyet: Nothing in Berbatov, Keane omission

Tottenham assistant boss Gus Poyet insists there was nothing sinister in starting Dimitar Berbatov on the bench for yesterday's 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent were preferred to Robbie Keane and Berbatov up front against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Kevin-Prince Boateng was also handed his first Premier League start, replacing Didier Zokora in midfield.

First team coach Gus Poyet said: "It's just a decision you have to make in football, we thought it they were the best strikers for this game with their speed and ability to get in behind (the defence). There was nothing else behind it."
