Spurs No2 Poyet: Giovani, Modric will be better for run

Tottenham No2 Gus Poyet says new signings Luka Modric and Giovani dos Santos will take plenty from the opening day defeat at Middlesbrough.

Poyet told Tottenham's website: "Taking away the positives, we can say that the new boys, especially Gio and Luka, would have learnt a lot from that game. They are quality players so I am sure they will get to grips with the English style of football very quickly.

"We were not the best team in the world after beating Roma 5-0, and we are certainly not the worst now. It's just a football game that didn't go our way, so we need to stay calm and keep believing in ourselves.

"There are always positives and we need to address the negatives, but that's one game and we've got another one now to bounce back."
