Tottenham assistant boss Kevin Bond has welcomed their opening day Premiership fixture against Liverpool.

"It's a great fixture and there will be no playing our way into the season - we'll need to be at our very best from day one," Bond told the Spurs website.

"Liverpool stayed the distance really well last season. They are a top side and just missed out and I expect them to go even closer. They will make it a real test. They will improve as a side and they will want to come out of the blocks quickly as well.

"It would be great for confidence and would give us a real boost if we could take a scalp like that. It will be tough but every team knows that White Hart Lane is a very difficult place to go to and hopefully it will remain the same next season."
