Tottenham and Marseille legend Chris Waddle says Arsenal winger Theo Walcott needs a "Plan B" to fulfill his potential.
In a column for The People, Waddle explained his criticisms of the England reject: "I flagged up concerns over Walcott's ability to make an impact on the World Cup way back in March when I said he did not seem to understand the game and did not have a football brain.
"And I would have stood by that even if he had made the squad.
"But let me get one thing straight ... this is not personal. I have nothing against Theo and I am sure he is a lovely lad. There is no grudge or sinister agenda - my reservations about him are purely professional and I think he needs some help in finding a way forward.
"Because it's clear, under Capello at least, that at international level he is at the crossroads and, unless he changes his game, Theo's England career is over. And I hope my own experiences as a winger can help him.
"In a bizarre way, I think Theo's finest moment for England - his hat-trick against Croatia back in September 2008 - has been the biggest hindrance to his career.
"Because that night in Zagreb it was his pace on to fabulous balls over the top or inside the defenders that put his hat-trick on a plate. He did not have to beat people or find space. Pace kills defenders and that is Walcott's Plan A. But every player and manager needs a plan B or C - and Theo does not have one.
"He is one-dimensional and he has been sussed by defenders who have worked out how to play against him.
"He has been heading down cul-de-sacs and now he has hit a brick wall. The only way he can solve the riddle is by learning different ways to play."
