Former Tottenham and Marseille star Chris Waddle insists England are not good enough to compete for the World Cup.
Waddle believes England are simply not good enough with the ball and it's that - and the challenge of too many top sides - that has left him fearing the worst.
Waddle, capped 61 times by England, told the Daily Star: "My heart would say I'd love us to win the World Cup - my head says we can't.
"England are hard-working and honest but ball retention is a problem.
"The grass is a lot longer and thicker out in Brazil. You've got to look at the climate too.
"Overall, it stacks up against us. As for winning it, the best we can do is quarter-finals."
