Tottenham legend Clive Allen has warned Andre Villas-Boas about criticising the White Hart Lane crowd.
AVB hit out at the fans after their scratchy win over Hull City.
Former Spurs coach Allen told talkSPORT: "He has to be very careful. He has to understand the expectation of the Spurs supporters. They have brought up on a certain style of play. Attacking teams who play with flamboyance, score lots of goals, sides that games 3-2, the supporters are very happy to be entertained in that way.
"The fans though have to understand that AVB has a philosophy that when his team goes 1-0 up they like to protect that. Under Harry Redknapp they would have thought if we get one goal, then we want to get two or three. I'm not so sure that's AVB's philosophy. Both parties have to understand there's a certain way in which Spurs need to play."
