Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas faces a battle to land long-term transfer target Joao Moutinho.

The Daily Express says Spurs came close to signing the Porto midfielder at the beginning of the season before the deal stalled.

After deciding not to move in January, Moutinho has been repeatedly linked with meeting up with his former boss Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane - while Chelsea have also previously expressed their interest in the player.

Monaco are leading the chasing pack with big spending Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev prepared to outbid rivals in search of a marquee signing.
