Spurs deny approach for Sevilla coach Ramos

Tottenham insist they did not make a formal approach to Sevilla coach Juande Ramos last Friday in Spain.

Bookies have made Seville boss Juande Ramos 7-4 favourite to take over from under-fire Jol at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham insisted last night they have not made an approach - yet.

However, reports over the weekend claimed a delegation from the club met with Ramos at a Spanish hotel on Friday.

But a Tottenham spokeswoman told The Sun: "Our secretary John Alexander was there for a private meeting and we are not in negotiations with anybody to replace Martin at this current time.

"We are a club looking to finish in the top four and when results are as they have been, we would expect speculation."

Ramos, 52, insisted he did not hold talks behind Jol's back.

He said: "I totally deny that I met with any Tottenham representative. Is there any evidence that demonstrates the contrary?

"It's totally false. I was with one friend in two hotels and I'm only shown leaving and in my car.

"I didn't speak to anyone about Tottenham or any other team.

"It's true I was in the hotel as I went to see a friend who has nothing to do with football and who was in Seville on a visit. But there was no meeting about Tottenham."
