The Daily Mirror suggest that Tottenham have increased the pressure on England striker Jermaine Defoe - and are hopeful he will sign a new contract.

Defoe, currently in the process of switching agents from Sky Andrew to Mitchell Thomas, has 18 months left to run on his existing deal.

Tottenham want him to either put pen to paper or be sold in January because they do not want him to run down his contract and leave for nothing on a Bosman-style free transfer.
