Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen says the pace of the Premier League is a big difference from the Eredivisie.

Vertonghen moved in the summer from Ajax.

"After six years with Ajax and everything I have won in the Netherlands, I was quite ready, I wanted a new challenge. I wanted a step higher," said Vertonghen.

"Tactically and technically there is not such a big difference between the Premier League and the Netherlands, it is the pace.

"Whether you are in the first minute or the last, it's every game at full throttle. At Ajax we could play games finishing at 80 per cent."
