Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has revealed how some words of advice from former Tottenham youth coach Des Bulpin has stayed with him.

Crouch was 17 and struggling to make the grade but he recalls: "Des said I'd play up front with Jermain for England one day. It was an extraordinary thing to say because I was a million miles away."

Crouch, with Defoe alongside, scored the only goal in Austria on Friday and the pair may play against Croatia on Wednesday.

Bulpin is now Plymouth's first-team coach.
