Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is keeping tabs on Mauricio Pochettino's situation at Southampton.
The Telegraph says Levy is also understood to be impressed by the work of Pochettino at Southampton and is closely monitoring contract negotiations between the south coast club and the Argentine.
Pochettino is viewed by some Spurs insiders as a better fit for the club than Holland coach Louis van Gaal, having successfully worked under a hands-on executive chairman, Nicola Cortese, and head of recruitment, Paul Mitchell.
The future of Pochettino could be affected by the admission of Southampton's new director, Hans Hofstetter, that the club owe £27 million in outstanding transfer fees and face a £30 million bill for their new training ground.
