Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is determined to land Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.

The Daily Mail says Levy was in Holland on Monday trying to clinch a deal for Ajax centre back Vertonghen.

Levy flew to Amsterdam to persuade the Belgium defender, 25, who is also on Arsenal and AC Milan’s radar, that Spurs remain a club with a bright future, despite missing out on Champions League qualification.

Monday’s discussions were the first of a number of meetings Levy has planned to ensure the club can still sign manager Harry Redknapp’s top targets.
