Spurs chairman Levy defends sacking policy

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has defended sacking Tim Sherwood.

Levy was speaking with the Tottenham Supporters' Trust.

The Telegraph says Levy is looking to appoint his eighth permanent manager since taking over the club in 2001 and his fifth in six years. Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is the leading candidate, ahead of Ajax's Frank de Boer.

Levy defended his revolving door policy to fans, claiming his approach was not different to most Premier League clubs. He argued Arsenal and formerly Manchester United were the exceptions, not the rule and pointed out standard contracts for head coaches in Europe only run for two seasons.

Pochettino and De Boer both fit the profile of head coach that Levy is looking for. He explained the new man will have to promise entertaining football for the White Hart Lane crowd and have the ability to bring out the best of the experienced players, while also bringing youngsters through.
