Spurs to break wage ceiling for Blackburn's Bentley

Tottenham are ready to offer Blackburn Rovers winger David Bentley £70,000-a-week to move to White Hart Lane.

The People says Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to shatter the club's wage structure but is prepared to make Bentley their highest-paid player in a bid to land one of the game's hottest properties.

Top earners at White Hart Lane include Robbie Keane, Ledley King and new signing Luka Modric on £60,000 a week, including bonuses.

And Spurs boss Juande Ramos knows he will have to pay that and more if they are to land Bentley from Blackburn in a deal worth £15million.

Spurs are ready to table a bid of £5m plus Aaron Lennon and Hossam Ghaly and believe their chances of signing him have improved following the departure of Rovers manager Mark Hughes to Manchester City.

Liverpool have already had a £12m offer rejected as Rovers hold out for their full asking price of £15m for a player with four years left on his contract. Bentley is believed to favour return to London, where he started his career with Arsenal.
