Spurs boss wary of Dele Alli missed chances - 'He is not van Basten or Batistuta'

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has refused to blame midfielder Dele Alli for his lack of efficiency in front of goal.

The England international missed an easy header with goal agape in the 0-0 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuessay.

Alli has also had 10 chances on goal in the Champions League this season but has failed to find the net.

Pochettino insists that Alli is an attacking midfielder and shouldn't be treated like a striker such as the great Marco van Basten and Gabriel Batistuta.

He said: "There is nothing to say about Dele. I am more than happy with him.

"If we are talking about scoring every chance, maybe we are talking about a Marco Van Basten or a Gabriel Batistuta, a striker.

"Not an offensive midfielder (like Alli).

"I think he works hard, he presses, he scores, he creates chances. I think it is unbelievable all the effort he makes in every game. I am more than happy with him."
