Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has explained questioning Andros Townsend's England call-up last week.

Townsend joined up with the England squad for the first time in the last two weeks but the Spurs boss was unsure why Roy Hodgson didn't ask him first.

"I expressed my surprise that ideally I would have liked to have been consulted, although I understand Roy doesn't do it with any managers.

"But I'm fine with the choices he makes."
