Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp remains hopeful of securing a deal for Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe.
He said: "If we could agree a fee with Portsmouth and my chairman can agree with their chief executive Peter Storrie then fine. He is a good player.
"But if Portsmouth do not want to sell him, it is up to them. They do not have to sell him if they don't want to.
"It's like the situation with Lassana Diarra.
"Portsmouth didn't really want to sell him but they got a fantastic offer and sold him to Real Madrid."
