Tottenham boss Juande Ramos is confident Jermain Defoe understands why he was substituted during last night's 2-0 Carling Cup quarterfinal victory at Manchester City.
After scoring the opener, Defoe was sacrificed for Teemu Tainio when Didier Zokora was sent-off, and Ramos said: "Defoe understands the change was tactical. He knows we had to bring on an extra defender."
