Tottenham boss Martin Jol has backed Hossam Ghaly after his transfer to Birmingham City fell through.

Blues boss Steve Bruce pulled the plug on the deal after Ghaly was said to have refused to put in extra training and allegedly criticised Birmingham's players.

Jol said: "I had a good word with Ghaly and he told me he never said these things.

"He's a good boy. Everyone knows I had one problem with him last season but it was the only time he got fined."
