Tottenham and Arsenal are chasing Ajax centre-back Joel Veltman.
The Mirror says the 22-year-old defender is in Louis van Gaal's Holland squad in Brazil but was on Spurs' radar long before Mauricio Pochettino replaced Tim Sherwood in the hotseat.
Arsenal, however, look set to lose Thomas Vermaelen to Manchester United and could rival Spurs for Veltman as a replacement.
Spurs are keen to recruit another central defender with Michael Dawson a target for Hull and doubts over Younes Kaboul's fitness.
