Spurs and Liverpool finish all square at sunny White Hart Lane

Danny Rose canceled out James Milner's Liverpool penalty to earn a 1-1 draw for Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp named Daniel Sturridge on the bench after his complaints in midweek., while Mauricio Pochettino played Harry Kane upfront on his own, starting Vincent Janssen on the Spurs bench.

Liverpool almost had the lead in the opening exchanges as Philippe Coutinho was denied by a point blank block from Michel Vorm in the Spurs goal. It was a great save from the Dutchman, who shone throughout.

Spurs were dominating possession, but Liverpool were creating the better half chances, without testing Vorm.

The Dutchman beat Sadio Mane to a loose ball outside his area on 20 minutes in a further sign of his confidence.

Pochettino threw Klopp a curve ball just before the half-hour. With fullback Kyle Walker forced off, Pochettino chose to replace him with Janssen to completely change his system.

Just before halftime, Liverpool had the lead.

Erik Lamela managed to clip Liverpool midfielder Roberto Firmino inside the Spurs area. The Argentine insisted it wasn't deliberate, but the spotkick was there. Milner stepped up to send Vorm the wrong way.

After the break, Liverpool began the stronger. Joel Matip saw his header kiss the top of the crossbar from a Reds free-kick on 52 minutes.

Two minutes later, Mane had the ball in the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside with Adam Lallana fractionally the wrong side of the Spurs defence.

Tottenham began forcing Liverpool back and before Rose's equaliser, Jan Vertonghen forced Simon Mignolet to turn away his header.

Five minutes later, just before the 70 minute mark, Rose had his goal. Christian Eriksen sunk Milner before clipping in his cross. Dele Alli couldn't direct his header goalwards and instead it dropped for Rose to half-volley past Mignolet.

The match soon turned into an end-to-end affair, though neither keeper was seriously tested. Gini Wijnaldum demanded a handball call after his shot was charged down by Vertonghen, but it fell on deaf ears.

In the end, both sides finished happy with a point - and with their performance. A thoroughly entertaining game on a sunny day in London.
